Last weekend the Speed Street FA Nitros enjoyed an excellent start to the fall season as a finalist in the Dick’s Sporting Goods Boys Charlotte Invitational 2017.  Many returning U17 Boys and the addition of some new young men made for a very exciting weekend of soccer. Saturday’s games included a 4-1 victory and a hard-fought 3-2 victory under tough conditions. Both games were back to back in 95+ degree heat on turf fields. They were the only team in the tournament to draw the back to back matches which on the turf made for a heat index of over 100 degrees for multiple hours. A tough but satisfying afternoon.  After an excellent showing Sunday morning and a convincing victory the boys found some air-conditioning and shade at the hotel for a quick rest. A great final match up ensued between the U17 Boys and one of the local clubs own 01 boys teams. A hard-fought match on a 97° afternoon yet again on turf made for an excellent match up for the boys.  The U17’s had a good outing but the ball would not find the back of the net but did hit crossbars and uprights multiple times and unfortunately a couple of early goals from Charlotte wound up being the difference. A tough 2–0 loss but an excellent showing from our boys over the weekend. Congratulations to the Speed Street U17 boys on being the CSA invitational finalist.
